Newark council members defy Booker, call for federal probe into police misconduct allegations

November 5, 2010: NEWARK — Newark Mayor Cory Booker may not want a federal probe into the city’s police department, but a majority of city council members are pleading for one. Six council members signed off on a letter sent Thursday to the U.S. Department of Justice. It asks the federal government to honor a petition by the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey and investigate the Newark Police Department for allegations of misconduct and use of excessive force. Click here for full story.
